Seriously no votes for Thief?? It's probably my second favourite behind Rubies although it pretty much ties with This Night and Streethawk.

Barring the first two albums, which are a league of their own, I think Thief is the worst Destroyer album.

Seriously no votes for Thief?? I probably would have voted for Thief, but This Night is what made me fall in love with Destroyer, so I had to give it the credit it deserved.

I've only been able to find three songs from Thief, but two of those already are some of my favorites. To the Heart of the Sun kicks ass. I can never find City of Daughers songs either. No Cease Fires (which also kicks jewel-encrusted ass) is the only one I've heard. Is the rest of the album as good?

I don't necessarily think Thief is a bad album, just the worst Destroyer album. What would you say is worse? I can't even wrap my head around the concept of a worst Destroyer album. Frankly, though, City of Daughters is a pretty bad album, at barely thirty minutes, AND containing three filler tracks. But I still considered choosing it for my favorite album. I mean, they're all my favorites. None of them are worst. We'll Build Them a Golden Bridge and Ideas for Songs are no worse than any of the other albums, either.

City of Daughters is nearly my favorite album, although I'm biased because that was the album that got me into Destroyer in the first place. It's got the raw simplicity of the earlier works while still keeping a degree of quality alive. And, yeah, Emaxes are filler tracks, but so are I.H.O.J. and M.E.R.C.I. from Thief. Also, Thief is only about 6 minutes longer than City of Daughters.
I like Golden Bridge and Ideas for their charm factor, but because of the quality of the recordings and the style they're done in, I don't think it's really reasonable to compare them to the other albums. That's just me though.

I always pick This Night, it wins out for volume of material and stylistic excess. This is the one to give your friends if you don't want them to be converted.
Every single Bejar album is worth owning, and all are in heavy rotation for me. City of daughters was my first, then Streethawk, so they're runners up with a special place in my heart.
I love Your Blues too, and always imagine Dan as a Zelda character playing an impromptu midi concert in Hyrule field.

I actually did vote for City of Daughters. They're all classic, but City of Daughter is such a great listen from beginning to end. I love the way it all flows, including the Emax songs, which have the wierd walkie talkie sound and sax that come in during the other songs like "Loves of a Gnostic." Rubies is definitely his most perfect and polished record, where all of the styles and experimentation on the other albums comes to fruition, so it's probably tied for me. Still, This Night, Streethawk and Your Blues are also perfect, so why choose??? Take 'em all!

Oh, Thief is also classic, with the greatest opening three songs around..."Destroyer's The Temple," "Into the Heart of the Sun on the Back of the Vulture I'll Go," and "The Way of Perpetual Roads," although I think at times the album bogs down slightly, "Every Christmas," "M.E.R.C.I," and "I.H.O.J." Still, I can't do without it, and "The Temple" is what got me hooked.
